Job Summary
AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Entry-Level Chemist for employment in the Honolulu, Hawaii office. This person will be working with and in support of project managers and project assistants.
 
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

 
  • Utilize basic scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope
  • Collect and enter data, and apply technical principles and theories
  • Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance
  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member
  • Perform data review and validation for multi-media data
  • Ensure project- and QAPP-specific data requirements are met
  • Support field efforts by preparing sampling plans and field documentation.
  • Work with data management to manage data flow from the laboratory to final reporting
  • Research environmental laboratory practices and methodologies
  • Prepare proposals, procures and oversees laboratory services and approves invoices
  • Conduct field and laboratory technical system audits
  • Prepare technical reports and papers, and QAPPs
  • Coordinate with end user to define data quality requirements and to help assure that data are scientifically sound and are usable in meeting end-use objectives

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or other related field required

  • Knowledge of chemistry principles

  • Working knowledge of instrumentation used for environmental analysis (i.e. GC/MS, ICP, GC-ECD, IC, etc.)

  • Must be proficient in standard office computer applications and software, to include Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access

  • Position requires analytical and interpersonal skills, and solid planning and organizational skills

  • Candidate must be able to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Candidate must be able to obtain 40 hour HAZWOPER training

  • Candidate must be able to travel and work outdoors as needed

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

  • Required to intermittently drive company or rental vehicles for work



Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Chemistry or other related field

  • Intern experience in laboratory or environmental chemistry
