Fruit Bat Biologists
at Cardno ATC
Cardno GS, Inc. is seeking two (2) fruit bat biologists to support projects within the Mariana islands. Primary duties for successful candidates include conducting field surveys and ecological assessments, and assisting the principal investigator (PI) with fruit bat survey data collection and entering data into a database. Extensive travel and night work will be required for this position; all lodging and travel expenses will be covered.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Conduct surveys for Mariana fruit bats during work over long hours in remote locations under multiple weather conditions, including possible inclement weather.
- Possess the ability to walk up to 10 miles per day in rugged terrain with equipment and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Conduct surveys and collect of field data for fruit bats and other wildlife.
- Use topographic, vegetation, and aerial maps, GPS unit, compass, and other tools to navigate to survey locations, and to determine locations of project areas, habitat cover types, and associated landforms.
- Possibly conduct biological data/literature searches and reviews.
- Possibly assisting with drafting of reports describing survey results and conclusions.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Candidates must have demonstrated field experience with fruit bat species in the Pacific region and with appropriate survey techniques and equipment. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrable skill sets and experience with other tropical wildlife and survey experience.
The fruit bat biologists should have the physical ability and mindset to work on a remote, relatively rugged island in the tropical Pacific for an extended period.
