Salary: $4,079 to $4,968 per month (SR-20, Step C to H).

NOTE: Employees appointed to temporary positions may also gain membership in the civil service upon satisfactory completion of an initial probation period of at least six months. Once you become a member of the civil service, you become eligible to apply for promotion and transfer opportunities to permanent as well as other temporary positions. You may also enjoy other rights and benefits afforded to an employee in a permanent position with the exception of return rights and placement rights associated with a reduction-in-force.

Duties Summary

Positions in this occupational field are engaged in the identification, prevention and control of communicable diseases through directed investigative epidemiological activities; the education and motivation of patients, contacts and suspects of communicable disease to comply with current public health regulations; conducting the medical, social, cultural and psychological aspects of field interviewing and investigation in obtaining source spread information; and the performance of a variety of informational-educational activities for the prevention of communicable diseases in the community.

Level III positions perform the full range of epidemiological investigations and educational activities in the communicable disease control program; and perform other related duties as assigned. Assignments include the investigation of the full-range of venereal disease cases including the most complex and priority cases; or the investigation of the full-range of communicable diseases caused by bacterial, viral and other parasitic agents, including those that are uncommon.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Coursework must include a minimum of three (3) courses in the biological sciences of which at least one course must be beyond the introductory level. Successful completion of such coursework must demonstrate an aptitude for, and a basic knowledge of the biological sciences.

Specialized Experience: One and one-half (1-1/2) years of progressively responsible professional work experience which demonstrated knowledge and application of the principles, practices, methods and techniques used in the identification, prevention and control of communicable diseases.
