  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. Agile experience preferred

    Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a MUOS I-Level Site Systems Engineer. The position is named “I-Level Maintainer” and is primarily focused on supporting the system operators (O-Level Operators) with maintaining a satellite based communication system located out the Wahiawa, HI site. Daily efforts include resolving trouble tickets that that O-level operators or maintainers are unable to resolve, providing on-the-job training to O-level operators and maintainers, as needed, to make them more capable and independent. Perform proactive system checks to identify issues before they become problems or to detect problems that do not have automated detection mechanisms. Works with factory engineers to collect data logs, equipment configuration, etc., in support of resolving issues that have been escalated to the factory for resolution. Provides evaluation of changes and new features before or during deployment and provides feedback to the factory regarding issues observed at site.

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

    • Use and operation of RF test equipment including spectrum analyzers, signal generators, arbitrary waveform generators and power meters
    • Understand capabilities and limitations of RF test equipment
    • Interpret measurement results obtained from RF test equipment
    • Clearly communicate findings and recommendations to local operators, managers and remote site technicians via verbal and written communication
    • Maintenance of remote systems via remote desktop protocol, ssh and ftp, GUI and command line utilities
    • Basic use of Redhat Enterprise Linux, Solaris, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2012 and Windows 10 operating systems
    • Must be able to support 24/7 operations including being “on call” as required

    MUOS specific experience:

    • MUOS system architecture and subsystem connections
    • MUOS RF subsystems theory of operation
    • MUOS site alignment procedures
    • MUOS ETISP troubleshooting and isolation of faults to LRU
    • NetMAC GUI operation including generation and interpretation of history reports and system messages
    • ITSM and Remedy incident trouble ticket systems
    • Management and control of WCDMA equipment via Moshell and OSS-RC
    • MUOS planning and provisioning application and key management system operation and troubleshooting


    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Must have an existing IAT Level II certification or qualifying degree
    • Earth terminal operation and maintenance
    • Antenna control unit tracking control and troubleshooting
    • Alignment of RF subsystems to meet gain, power and frequency response requirements
    • Troubleshooting of analog and digital signal processing equipment
    • SNMP v3 MIB browsers
    • Tape storage management systems and hardware
    • Monitoring of IP network equipment including firewalls, switches, routers, load balancer and HAIPE
    • WCDMA infrastructure equipment and waveform
    • Must be willing to relocate to Oahu, HI for at least one year
    • An active DoD Secret (or higher) Security clearance is required
