Intermittent (on call) Work Hours: Some positions are identified as intermittent (on call) for work scheduling purposes. Intermittent (on call) work hours vary from 0 - 40 hours per week dependent on the needs of the department. For such positions, you must be willing and able to work weekends, nights, and holidays.
Shiftwork: These positions require incumbents to work on a rotating shift basis. You must be willing and able to work weekends, nights, holidays, rotating shifts, and work outside of normally scheduled work hours.
Gender-Specific Positions: These positions require the employee to be of the same gender (female) as that of the client being served.
Testing Information: All applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be required to pass two phases of testing scheduled on O`ahu. The first phase of testing is a written examination. Those who pass the written examination will be scheduled to take an attitudinal test. Applicants must pass both phases of testing to be eligible for employment consideration. The examination notice is sent about two weeks prior to the test date. Candidates must report for the exam in person. We do not offer our exams online or out-of-state.
|Summary of Duties:|
|Performs as a trainee, receiving formal and informal training in the application of the basic principles, methods and techniques of therapeutic counseling and rehabilitation services; and performs other duties as required.|
|Minimum Qualification Requirements:|
|Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 12 semester credit hours in a social science.|
Selective Certification Requirement - Driver's License: All vacant Juvenile Counselor I positions require a current valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle.
Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement (28 CFR 115.117 and 115.317): The position that you are applying for has contact with detainees in a juvenile facility or lockup. In accordance with the Federal PREA Law, the State of Hawai`i shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with residents/detainees in a juvenile facility or lockup who:
a. Has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution;
b. Has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse;
c. Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in b above; or,
d. Has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.
