Position Overview

The Platform Engineer job family develops and maintains desktop, mobile device, server, network, and code deployment infrastructure for the enterprise. Platform engineers must ensure reliable, performant and cost-effective capabilities to run business software. Platform Engineers must understand current and future technical platforms from the hardware, operating system, communications, security, and system services layers. They are responsible to plan, design, and build the standard platforms for the company.

Key Responsibilities


  • Provide leadership for the installation, customization, and maintenance of computer/network systems developed internally and/or in conjunction with outside vendors
  • Provide leadership in the support of project teams/business customers to evaluate, develop, implement and support system architecture components
  • Provide leadership for system testing and test and implement system components using techniques that preserve system integrity
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced team members
  • Teaches technical topics to junior and other senior members of the staff

Projects and Solutions:

  • Ability to capture project level requirements and translate into working solutions
  • Work with the business to create solutions that support both IT DR and Business continuity
  • Proactively contribute to the design of new solutions
  • Build, manage and support complex infrastructure and hosting environments
  • Design, document and implement policies and procedures for hosting environments
  • Ensure hosting platforms are appropriate, scalable, supportable and require minimal maintenance
  • Assure functional and technical integrity of systems and ensure that system software is functionally appropriate, technically sound and integrated
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies to influence the design process
  • Lead/conducts detailed code or solution reviews in a constructive manner
  • Recommend process or environment enhancements to applications development and support teams
  • Plan and manage project activities within allocated resources
  • Promotes adherence to standards and the common way (SDLC)
  • Support the organization’s project management policy, practice and methodology
  • Evaluate engineering solutions for production readiness, coordinate solutions for gaps, build and implement, and build in operational automated maintenance components and provide operational documentation
  • Expert familiarity with AWS could infrastructure, cloud formation, cloud deployments, Cloud watch logging and monitoring, containers and container management, and cloud security

Communications and Coordination:

  • Respond immediately to production system and environment problems and proactively lead cross-functional problem resolution with minimal supervision for complex or multiple problems and high risk
  • Support Application teams and assist with complex issues
  • Perform stack and security audits
  • Work with key personnel or suppliers to ensure all work items, SLAs and KPIs are being met
  • Develop time estimates for project schedules, monitor progress and provide accurate and timely reports
  • Work across projects to synchronize data analysis efforts and deliverables
  • Negotiate and manage team relationships at project level and maintain focus on internal and external customer requirements
  • Provide technical assistance/coaching to business customers as required

Business of IT:

  • Provide input to budgets
  • Perform technical cost-benefit analysis
  • Assist in organizational, financial capital and operations planning
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of professional work experience and education
  • 5 years’ work experience in Engineering or Information Technology
  • Prior experience as a technical or team lead, and expert knowledge required to serve as top technician and subject matter expert
  • Excellent partnering, negotiation and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-based and customer-service-oriented environment
  • Ability to lead the technical work of others/coach and mentor
  • Experience with architecture, design, configuration, management, and maintenance of load balancing solutions using DNS in large multi-site environments
  • Expert experience with Enterprise Windows ad Linux Server hosted environments on VMWare, AWS, and Office 365
  • Administer, upgrade, migrate, and maintain industry standard and hardened active directory and GPO architecture and policies.
  • Backup and Storage expertise
  • Exchange and mailbox (local and cloud capabilities, architecture, and restraints)

Technical knowledge and expertise:

  • Ability to completes tasks independently/interdependently
  • Ability to independently perform troubleshooting, root-cause analysis and solution implementation for multiple complex problems
  • Advanced knowledge of computer/network systems hardware and software theory, practice, concepts, and technology
  • Understands the following: impact of design decision to the computer, performance, etc.), technical behavior of the underlying operating systems, network & hardware, authentication/monitoring/and logging systems, deployment environment, packaging & distribution of apps, operations/run requirements
  • Good understanding of Enterprise model of IT Operations with Enterprise business applications, airline applications, application development and deployment, and underlying network connectivity and reliability required to run an airline business
  • Proficient knowledge of capacity management and planning for all infrastructure
  • Proficient knowledge of hardware fault diagnosis and management to resolution
  • Ability to perform advanced troubleshooting and an escalation for operational issues
  • Understands the detailed business processes involved in the project or technical area
  • Advanced knowledge of technical/business environments
  • Ability to manage projects using the organization’s project management methodology
  • Strong networking skills and understanding of security, routing, switching, and load balancing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Information Systems
  • Microsoft 365 and/or Azure Certified
  • CCIE
