MARINE MACHINERY MECHANIC /  INSIDE MACHINIST

  • All personnel in this group shall be graduates of high school or GED equivalence.

  • Two (2) years of experience after achieving journeyman status as a marine machinery mechanic.Journeyman’s level of skill is developed from both formal training and work experience. The term Journeyman is specifically defined as a term applied to a worker who has completed a specified training program as an APPRENTICE MASTER TITLE (any industry) in learning a trade or craft, or can give written proof of four or five years of qualifying experience for such trade or craft.

  • Ability to interpret blueprints, sketches and specifications and to apply manual skills in dissembling, repairing and building equipment and machinery.

Marine Machinery Mechanic

  • Ship maintenance and repair experience of 2 or more years working on U.S. Naval vessels. 
  • Trade knowledge of mechanical principles of the operating of machinery, hydraulics, the machining of metals, mathematics, basic physics and general science.
  • Ability to operate, set up and align various portable tools used in the trade as well as the ability to use such precision measuring instruments as height gauges, depth gauges, calipers, verniers, lay-out tools, tachometers, vibration indicators.
  • Ability to install, troubleshoot, and repair ship machinery such as, but not limited to, propelling machinery, auxiliary motors, pumps, valves, launchers, discharge machinery, ventilation equipment, steering gear, evaporators, heaters, pumps, condensers, propulsion plants, torpedo tubes, shutter doors, antennas mast mechanical groups (MMG), and periscopes.
  • Ability to test and inspect installed machinery and equipment during dock and sea trials.

Inside Machinist

  • Trade knowledge of mechanical principles of machinery operations, hydraulics, the machining of metals, mathematics, basic physics, and general science.
  • Ability to operate, set up, and align various manual and/or Computer Numerical Control (CNC) driven horizontal and vertical lathes, milling machines, vertical plunge boring machines, drill presses, band saws, track saws, grinding wheels, and all portable tools used in the trade as well as the ability to use such precision measuring instruments as height gauges, depth gauges, calipers, verniers, layout tools, vibro techometers, stroboscopic tachometers, vibration indicators.
  • Ability to shape metal parts to close tolerances, perform standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds and speeds of machines, fittings, and assembling parts into mechanical equipment.
  • Knowledge of the working properties of the common metals, standard material selection, and the parts and equipment required to perform machining work.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Negative Pressure Respirator - contractor personnel provided must be trained in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.134.

  2. Confined Space - contractor personnel provided must be trained in accordance with 29 CFR 1915 Subpart B. (FOR MARINE MACHINERY MECHANIC ONLY)

    *MUST be capable of obtaining a fully Adjudicated DoD Clearance. Candidates with a current fully adjudicated DoD Clearance (RED Badge ONLY) will be given priority for hiring.
